Red Flags 3 That Your Prospective Surgeon Is Not a Pilonidal Surgeon

  1. “After” photographs of cleft-lifts on the surgeon’s website do not show an incision clearly to one side of the midline and show a gluteal cleft which has not clearly been lifted/flattened. Beware, if their cleft- lifts look like “nothing was done”, this may indeed be the case!
  2. Online [Google] reviews of the surgeon’s work which seem to cover many types of nonpilonidal surgeries such as gallbladder removal and hernia repair, indicating lack of pilonidal specialization.
  3. Online [Google]  reviews of the surgeon specific to their pilonidal surgeries, e.g. cleft-lift, which do not span a significant time interval, say only a few years, indicating fewer years of cleft-lift experience.
