Red Flags 2 That Your Prospective Surgeon Is Not a Pilonidal Surgeon

The surgeon claims a wildly high success rate with their cleft-lift procedure which includes ultra-low longterm recurrence several years out, but strangely doesn’t arrange followup with their cleft-lift patients more than several months after surgery to monitor for this recurrence! In other words, once you are healed, you are discharged forever.  More importantly, the surgeon has never put forth any effort to write up their outcomes data in a paper and subsequently subject this paper to the peer-review process, in which similar surgeons search for shortcomings in the patient selection criteria, surgical techniques, data collection, statistical techniques, 

and writing conclusions, and thereby mandate improvements in these methods prior to publication.  This is the basics of medical research. So, it is so much more than the doctor telling you their surgery rarely fails!  Be informed, it’s your right!
