Laser Ablation

In select cases, a laser ablation technique is used to primarily eradicate pilonidal disease.

In the case of a focal, limited pilonidal sinus tract, probe-delivered laser energy may be employed as a primary curative modality. This procedure is performed in an ambulatory care setting under intravenous sedation. In well-selected cases, this technique serves to eradicate pilonidal disease without a surgical incision. This technology may also be used as an adjuvant to formal pilonidal cystectomy, as a way to decrease disease recurrence following surgical excision. Microwave ablation therapy is currently being investigated an emerging technique.
